President's Letter: 12/29/04
Greetings Alumni,
As we enter 2005, we can be grateful that our University continues to be focused on uncompromised excellence, both in the classroom and on the playing field. Whether you attend University sporting or cultural events or support the school you graduated from, I'm sure many of you still stay connected to the University.
As another way to support the University, I would like to invite you to join the UVa Club of the Roanoke Valley. Our goals are to encourage local students to attend the University and to facilitate connections between area alumni and the University, and your support allows us to achieve our goals.
We have been polling our members informally to see what kind of activities you are interested in, and weÕve tried to incorporate your feedback in this yearÕs schedule of events. From a wine tasting and service project to an event welcoming incoming first years, you're sure to find something you like to do.
We hope you will complete the enclosed form and become an official member of our Club. As many of you know, we do feature member and non-member admission fees for events, so joining now will save you money in the long run. In addition to discounted admission prices, you are supporting your local alumni Club, and we use these funds to hold events such as Entering Students Night, where local incoming first years gather before heading to the University.
For those of you who are interested in becoming more involved with our chapter, I encourage you to contact me. Our Board organizes Club events and is a liaison between local alumni and Alumni Hall in Charlottesville. Whether as an official Board member or a committee member, you can educate prospective students about the University through our Schools Committee; you can help organize our annual service project through our Cavaliers Care Committee; you can plan social events through our Social Committee; and there are many other opportunities. Regardless of how you'd like to help, we'd love to have you.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments at 540.529-2502.
Cheers,
Courtney Reynolds
President
